The Ns2f narrow-gauge locomotive
The Ns2f narrow-gauge locomotive from Lokomotivbau Karl Marx was one of the most frequently produced narrow-gauge locomotives in the GDR. It was first presented at the Leipzig Trade Fair in 1952 with the serial number 48318. It is powered by a 30 hp motor, which transmits its power to the locomotive's two axles via coupling rods. The transmission features multi-disk wet clutches for the first two gears and a third gear with a multi-disk dry clutch for speeds up to 14 km/h. The locomotive is equipped with an electrical system and is designed for track gauges from 485 to 630 mm. From 1952 to 1959, 550 examples of this popular narrow-gauge locomotive were produced. Due to its robustness, it is still widely used today on park railways and heritage railways, even in western regions.

The Model
Like the original, the locomotive models are available in versions with open and closed cabs. The small locomotives are powered by a 3-volt micro-precision motor with gear reduction for prototypical slow travel and strong tractive power. A built-in magnet increases the contact pressure of the locomotive on the metal-backed narrow-gauge tracks, thus ensuring reliable current absorption from the rails and smooth slow travel. The locomotives have a coupling pin on the rear of the cab for realistic train formation and a magnetic coupling for operation with trolleys and wagons from the Busch mine railway range. Just like the original, the narrow-gauge locomotive can be used on the smallest track radii (up to 100 mm). Due to its compact design and small space requirements, it is also ideal for diorama creations and additions to existing model railway layouts.

Lokomotivbau Karl Marx in Babelsberg
VEB Lokomotivbau Karl Marx Babelsberg (LKM) was the most important manufacturer of diesel-powered narrow-gauge locomotives in the GDR and originated from the Maschinenbau und Bahnbedarf Aktiengesellschaft plant, formerly Orenstein & Koppel in Berlin. In 1948, it was incorporated into VVB LOWA (the abbreviation LOWA referred to the Association of People's Own Enterprises for Locomotive and Wagon Construction in the GDR, founded in 1945). The diesel locomotive range, launched in 1950, included numerous narrow-gauge variants. VEB LKM existed until the end of the GDR in 1990 and was closed in 1992 after being converted into a GmbH and subsequently wound up. Today, a business park is located on the former LKM factory site in Potsdam.
