WIKING 004047 - Police - VW 181Model InformationIn the post-war decades, almost all vehicles from the Wolfsburg-based automaker were standard issue for state police forces. Even the legendary VW 181, the former Bundeswehr Kübelwagen (military utility vehicle), found its way into police fleets in many German states. This was especially true where operational areas required a certain degree of off-road capability, meaning the robust, though not all-wheel-drive, Kübelwagen was often in service well into the 1990s. WIKING miniaturized the VW 181 in the typical two-tone livery of that era, which is particularly striking due to the separately designed doors in the side view. When the VW 181 was presented at the 1969 IAA (International Motor Show), its automotive purpose was initially purely military. After European countries had planned to jointly develop a Jeep equivalent in the 1960s, but this project failed, and then the DKW Munga was also discontinued, the Bundeswehr came under pressure. WIKING 086397 - Fire Department - LF 16 (Magirus)Prototype InformationIn the 1950s, it was the heart of all large fire brigades: the Magirus round-hooded fire engine, delivered as the LF 16, had everything a crew needed at the time. The standard Ulm fire engine transported personnel and equipment to the scene of the incident. Therefore, it is striking how the two-part design of the model accurately reflects this fact. Above all, the long crew cab for the nine-person crew makes this characterful fire engine so impressive – in addition to the extension ladder sections and sliding ladder on the roof and the hose reel mounted at the rear. The cab features a corresponding interior with rear bench seats facing each other. Also new is the angular, box-shaped body compared to the familiar TLF 16, with roof rails and the prototypical engravings for the side and rear equipment compartments. WIKING 026006 - Fire Brigade - Panorama Bus (MB O 319)Prototype InformationThey were quite rare in the 1950s and 60s and could only be found at a few large fire departments in the country: minibuses like the O 319 were considered an exceptional sight and, precisely for that reason, exude such an authentic aura, as does the WIKING model, which the traditional model makers have miniaturized according to an authentic prototype. The roof edge glazing and the large glazed area made the Mercedes-Benz O 319 a sought-after minibus for fire departments. The series, developed with a permissible gross vehicle weight of up to 3.9 tons, was presented at the 1955 IAA (International Motor Show), so that from then on, the versions could be ordered as panel vans, flatbed trucks, and also as a panoramic bus.
