The RS 01 tractor, bearing the well-known brand name Pionier, was the first tractor produced in the GDR between 1949 and 1959. Its technology dates back to a pre-war development. Production initially began at VEB HORCH Kraftfahrzeuge – und Motorwerke Zwickau, then at the state-owned "Schlepperwerke Nordhausen" company. This powerful tractor was not only popular in agriculture; various companies and manufacturing facilities also made use of it, as in this case.
