The RS 01 tractor, bearing the well-known brand name Pionier, was the first tractor produced in the GDR between 1949 and 1959. Its technology dates back to a pre-war development. Initially, production began at VEB HORCH Kraftfahrzeuge – und Motorwerke Zwickau, then at the state-owned company "Schlepperwerke Nordhausen." The RS 01/Pionier is a frameless block-type tractor with a rigid rear axle. The front axle is a leaf-sprung swing axle. Initially, the Pionier was only available with a driver's cab, but later it could also be purchased without one. The tractor is powered by a water-cooled, inline, 4-cylinder, 4-stroke diesel engine with a displacement of 5 liters and an output of 29.4 kW. The Pioneer was primarily used in agriculture and forestry, where it proved to be an extremely robust and loyal companion. Its only weak point was its steering, which could lock at full lock, due to worn chassis components. By creating this popular tractor in miniature, the delicate and detailed tractor will soon be found among collectors and on many well-maintained H0 layouts.
