221 126 – The Great V 200
It was an icon on Germany's railways, embodying the heyday of the German Federal Railway (DB) like almost no other locomotive. We're talking about the legendary V 200, whose larger variant delivered a staggering 2,700 hp to the rails. Sixty examples of this powerful diesel engine left the Krauss-Maffei factory between 1962 and 1965 as the V 200.1 series. These robust locomotives soon became legendary – whether on the Black Forest Railway or the Allgäu Railway, on the Vogelfluglinie (Bird Flight Line) across the Fehmarn Sound Bridge, hauling express trains on the Hamburg-Osnabrück line, and finally in heavy mining traffic around the Ruhr region. Numerous examples are still in service today with private railway companies – some even sporting the original red, black, and gray DB livery with the famous "V" on the front. The 221, as the locomotive was later designated by the DB (German Federal Railway), embodies one of the most important chapters in German railway history and is therefore an absolute must-have for every model railroader (Märklin enthusiasts).
