Model Details
Ae 3/5 - The Little SécheronIt's a name that immediately evokes a special aura. However, the "little Sécheron" isn't a Picasso painting, but rather the almost affectionate nickname for a Swiss locomotive that was meant to usher in a new era on the rails for the Swiss Confederation. Electric traction throughout the country was the guiding principle after the First World War. Single-frame designs with individual axle drive were the magic formula for the electric future on the flatland lines of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB). Built from 1922 onwards, the Ae 3/5, with its three driving axles and two trailing axles, looked unusually compact, yet delivered an impressive 1800 horsepower for its time. And its minimalist design also exuded an unusual elegance. Thus, the Ae 3/5 soon acquired its nickname – in reference to the Geneva-based company Sécheron, which supplied the electrical components. The Ae 3/5 10217 has been preserved as a working gem in the Olten depot. This handsome locomotive served as the prototype for the beautiful new Märklin model of this locomotive type, which exudes a truly quaint charm even in 1:87 scale.
