Model Details
"On the Swabian Railway!"The "Echaz Railway" runs from Reutlingen to Münsingen and was completed in 1893. It was the first standard-gauge branch line opened in Württemberg and also the last railway project to be given its own name. The "Honau" station was centrally located: Here, with a gradient of 100%, began the steepest standard-gauge rack railway in Germany, climbing up to Lichtenstein. Locomotives of the BR 97.5 series were primarily used. After the Second World War, the line again played an important role in freight traffic until its closure in 1953. Since it lay entirely within the French-occupied part of Württemberg, military transports could be carried out via the line to the Münsingen military training area without having to cross the American sector. Due to the steep gradient, freight trains, which at that time were hauled by BR 50, BR 52, BR 57.10, and occasionally BR 93.5 locomotives, required a BR 97.5 rack locomotive to be used at the rear of the trains in push-pull operation. The Honau station building, with its two annexes, is architecturally remarkable: the entire station was built in the Swiss chalet style and served as a prototype for the Württemberg standard station type III, later IIIa. The beautiful hipped roof construction, as well as many of the charming details on the beams, wood paneling, and extensions, remained exclusive to the Honau station and were not implemented in later standard station buildings for cost reasons. After the line was closed in the mid-1950s, the building fell into disrepair until the Honau Station Preservation Society (Förderverein Bahnhof Honau e. V.) took on the task of restoring the station on a voluntary basis in 2003. Much has happened since then, and the building now shines in its former glory.

Honau Station Preservation Society (Förderverein Bahnhof Honau e. V.) Founded in 2003, the Honau Station Preservation Society celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2018. For years, its members have volunteered their time to rebuild and maintain the original station building. Over time, a ruin has been transformed into a fantastic event venue, now hosting festivals, Christmas markets, and many other events. We would like to express our special thanks to the Preservation Society for their assistance in creating this model, and therefore we are donating a portion of the sales proceeds to the preservation of the original building.
