The Shinkansen monitored the condition of tracks, overhead lines, and signaling systems on the Tokaido and Sanyo lines and is therefore known as the "Shinkansen Doctor." The Z-Shorty model shortens the train to approximately half its original length but retains the typical yellow paint scheme and characteristic shape.
