New tooling for 2026: The Vectron Dual Mode combines the best of both worlds: It is a modern dual-mode locomotive that can operate on both electric and diesel power – flexible, powerful, and environmentally conscious. Developed by Siemens Mobility based on the proven Vectron DE, this locomotive seamlessly masters the transition between overhead line and non-electrified lines. Since its introduction in 2019, the series has established itself as a pioneering concept. The Class 248 (Vectron Dual Mode) and the lighter Class 249 (Vectron Dual Mode light) are two variants optimally tailored to different operational requirements. With its versatility, efficiency, and future-proof design, the Vectron Dual Mode represents the next step in modern rail transport – a strong link between tradition and progress.
