Authentic, largely unpublished photos from history illuminate the multifaceted aspects of the model-making oeuvre. 75 years of WIKING transport models – the anniversary is the perfect occasion for a large, lively book about WIKING cars. With over 300 illustrations, of course! Indeed, in the often adverse realities of the post-war years, motor vehicles were intended to help master the reconstruction in the occupied zones – as a result, the car boom slowly but steadily began. And Wiking Model Construction created the vast world of miniatures to perfectly match this. Initially, the first cars and trucks were constructed on a scale of 1:100, using simple, hot-set wire axles. When currency reform and the Marshall Plan were to ensure the resurgence of the Western occupation zones and full store shelves, WIKING CEO Fritz Peltzer had already set the course. The first plastic injection molding molds—still a rarity at the time—were ready in 1948, launching a considerable range of passenger cars, simple convertibles, and even US tractors with trailers. A bold step that soon made children's hearts beat faster. From then on, things went uphill. Entire generations of children grew up with WIKING cars and enjoyed the ever-increasing level of detail in the miniatures. In 1984, the company changed hands because WIKING founder Fritz Peltzer had never made a succession plan. Wiking's life's work continued in Lüdenscheid, as the family-run Sieper company, known for its Siku toy models, embraced the WIKING philosophy with the same passion.
