Berliner Roller
The "Berliner Roller," produced by the VEB Industriewerk Ludwigsfelde from 1959 to 1963, is not commonly known under its regular designation IWL SR59 Berlin. With 114,000 models produced, it is the top model and thus the most-produced scooter in the GDR. The 150 cc, 7.5 hp, air-cooled, single-cylinder, two-stroke engine accelerated the scooter to a maximum of 82 km/h, with fuel consumption of 3.2 liters per 100 km. Today, the Berliner Roller is an absolute cult object.

Schwalbe
High-flyer! A whopping one million units of the "Schwalbe" moped (exact designation KR51) left the Simson production plant in Suhl, Thuringia, between 1964 and 1986. During the GDR era, the vehicle could be found throughout the Eastern Bloc, and since reunification in 1990, the wave of enthusiasm has spread throughout Germany. One of the reasons is likely that it was one of the few mopeds in the Federal Republic of Germany that was permitted to reach 60 km/h. The displacement of the air-cooled, single-cylinder, two-stroke engine is 50 cc and produces 3.4 hp. The Schwalbe is also considered a cult vehicle today. Perhaps also because anyone with a wrench can carry out any necessary repairs themselves.
