Circus Busch has a long history, with ups and downs. After the death of Fritz van der Heydt, the foster son of circus founder Jacob Busch, the company came under the trust administration of the city of Magdeburg in 1951. In 1960, "Busch," along with "Circus Barlay," was one of the founding companies of the "VEB Central Circus," which was joined by "Circus Aeros" just one year later. In 1961, a technical restructuring of "Circus Barlay" also resulted in the creation of a new touring company called "Olympia," which performed in smaller towns.
